A beat-synced montage — where every cut lands right on the drum — is the effect that makes a travel reel or a product montage feel professional. Doing it by hand means counting beats and nudging cuts for an hour. What the Beat Sync Wizard does
Pick a song and a pile of clips, and the wizard cuts every clip to the beat so the changes hit in time with the music — the CapCut-style beat slideshow, without leaving your browser. The clever part is where the work happens: the beats are detected on your own device using the Web Audio API. Your music isn't uploaded anywhere, and there's no AI bill per render — the BPM and beat count are worked out right in the tab.
What you need first
- A music track in your File Bin — a royalty-free song works great (here's how to add royalty-free music)
- A handful of images or clips you want to cut to the beat
- The editor open — that's it, no plugins or installs
Step 1 — Open Beat Sync
In the editor, open Insert › Beat Sync, or click the 🎵 Beat Sync button on the toolbar (it sits right next to Background). The wizard opens over your timeline.
Step 2 — Pick your track and let it find the beats
Choose a music track from your File Bin. The wizard analyzes it on the spot and shows you the BPM (beats per minute) and the total beat count it found. This runs on your device, so nothing leaves the browser — a track that's a few minutes long is scanned in a moment.
Step 3 — Choose how often to cut
Now decide the pace. Pick cut every 1, 2, 4, or 8 beats:
- Every 1 beat — fast, punchy, one clip per beat; great for an energetic montage
- Every 2 beats — quick but easier to follow
- Every 4 beats — one change per bar, a steady rhythm
- Every 8 beats — slow and calm, each clip lingers
The wizard uses this to work out how long each clip segment should be so the cuts always land on the beat.
Step 4 — Select your clips
Multi-select the images and clips you want in the montage. Order matters — they'll be placed in the order you pick, unless you shuffle them (next step).
Step 5 — Randomize and repeat to fill
Two options tidy up the rest:
- 🎲 Randomize order — shuffles your clips so the montage doesn't run in the same predictable sequence
- 🔁 Repeat to fill — if you have fewer clips than beat segments, it loops your clips to cover the whole track. Leave it off and add more clips instead if you'd rather show each one only once
Step 6 — Place it
Click Place. The wizard drops the music track onto your timeline and lays down each clip trimmed to its own beat segment — butted end to end, synced to the music, with no gaps. It all lands as one undo step, so if the pace isn't right you hit undo once, reopen the wizard, and try a different beat interval. Nothing is committed until you like it.
From there it's a normal timeline. Swap a clip, add animated captions, then export. When it's ready, export to MP4 at the exact size for YouTube, TikTok or Reels.
How it compares
CapCut has a good auto-beat feature, but it's a desktop or mobile app you have to install, and it wants you signed into an account — and depending on the template or effect you use, your export can carry a watermark. BeatEdit is a solid plugin, but it costs around $80 one-time and only works if you already own Premiere Pro or After Effects, which is a much bigger spend and a heavier workflow. Beatleap is slick on your phone, but it's a mobile app on a subscription.

Can I control how fast the cuts are?
